After working on low-frequency lighting of trees with indirect lighting, I developed a new method to project high-frequency shadows from leaves onto other leaves inside trees. You will find an overview of this work at this page.

The topic is real-time realistic rendering of nature scenes with dynamic lighting. It includes all details about real-time grass rendering (presented as a sketch at Siggraph 2006 and accepted for publication in IEEE Computer Graphics & Applications) and about real-time tree rendering with indirect lighting (Eurographics Symposium on Rendering 2008).

PhD thesis defense passed successfully

After almost three years of research work, I finally passed my PhD thesis defense. The topic of this work was real-time realistic rendering of nature scenes with dynamic lighting. The two main axes were grass and tree rendering. The work on grass consisted in rendering millions or billions of grass blades interactively with dynamic lighting, shadows and variable density. The work on trees consisted in defining a new lighting model that is very fast to evaluate and that gives images as realistic as possible by adding the indirect lighting contribution and dynamic soft shadows.

My thesis and the presentation slides will be online in a couple of days, the last corrections being applied. You will find all up-to-date details about grass and tree rendering.

I presented my work on real-time rendering of trees with indirect lighting at the 19th Eurographics Symposium on Rendering 2008 in Sarajevo the 24th of June 2008. You can find more information on the algorithm in my presentation slides and at this page.

Tree rendering paper accepted for publication

May 27, 2008

The paper corresponding to the second half of my PhD work has been accepted for publication at the 19th Eurographics Symposium on Rendering 2008 (the first half being grass rendering). I will present this work June 24th 2008 in Sarajevo.

Progress of the new website construction

The old construction webpage has been there for a while. At last, I restarted working on the website. It will take me a couple of days to add the main information on it and to update my PhD research pages.

Welcome to my personal website (in construction).

I am a French student currently in the United States, in the Computer Graphics Group of the University of Central Florida in Orlando. I am working for a dual PhD in computer graphics, between United States and IRISA in France.

I also work on a 3D engine, Neptune 3D, which is my current platform for 3D rendering. I used it to create the demo showing grass with flowers and trees. However, it is still under heavy development.
